“Seasoned With Love” Concert a Benefit for KU Theatre Works for Kansas

Monday, December 2, 2013

The University of Kansas Department of Theatre and the KU Alumni Association will present the holiday revue Seasoned With Love in the Crafton-Preyer Theatre Sunday, Dec. 15 at 2:30 p.m.

General admission tickets are on sale now at KU ticket offices and online. Tickets are also available by calling the University Theatre, (785) 864-3982, and the Lied Center at (785) 864-ARTS. Tickets are $15 for the public, $14 for senior citizens and KU faculty and staff, $10 for KU and Haskell students and $5 for K-12. All major credit cards are accepted.

Seasoned With Love will feature the Musical Theatre for Kansas (MTK) ensemble and KU Theatre faculty and staff performing holiday stories and songs from iconic Broadway musicals. The show features music from White Christmas, A Christmas Story, Little Women and Songs for a New World. Faculty performers include: Leslie Bennett, associate professor of theatre; Peter Zazzali, assistant professor of theatre; John Staniunas, professor of theatre and Gail Trottier, costume shop cutter/draper.

The event is a fundraiser to support the Department of Theatre’s outreach efforts, “KU Theatre Works for Kansas,” which includes MTK.

MTK began in the fall of 2011 as partnership with the University of Kansas Alumni Association to bring musical theatre to communities without regular access to performing arts. MTK is a seven-student ensemble under the direction of John Staniunas, professor of theatre, and musical direction of Ryan McCall, university theatre accompanist.

The MTK holiday show debuted last winter at Lincoln Center in New York City. MTK performs at Alumni events across the country. The Alumni Association will sponsor a reception after the show.

Cast members of MTK include Lily Lancaster, Lawrence sophomore; Hailey Lapin, Overland Park senior; Elaina Smith, Olathe senior; Jaclyn Nischbach, Wildwood, Mo., sophomore; Joe Lilek, Bethesda, Md., sophomore; Luke Reddig, Clive, Iowa, junior and Brody Horn, Columbus junior.
