Alums Come Home
Held approximately every five years, Alums Come Home is a reunion for all members of the KU Theatre & Dance family. The weekend includes a University Theatre production, workshops for students led by alumni with established careers, and receptions for alumni and students to connect.
Alums Come Home VII, Postponed
We’re sorry to report that Alums Come Home VII, originally scheduled for Oct. 22-24, 2021, has been postponed to the Fall of 2022. While time together as a community is restorative and much needed, the recent rise in Covid cases in our region, including among vaccinated persons, has convinced us that it would be ill-advised to try to stage such a large event on and around campus this semester. We will be reaching back out to you in the coming months with more details about the rescheduled reunion for the Department of Theatre & Dance at the University of Kansas.
We know many of you have been waiting to make plans to come home and some have already made travel arrangements, and we apologize for any inconvenience. The decision to reschedule was made after thoughtful consideration and deliberation with various stakeholders, including our Professional Advisory Board and many other alums who answered our most recent survey. Deferring Alums Come Home to Fall 2022 should allow for more celebration, safer indoor socializing and teaching, and less anxiety. Please continue reading to discover ways you can stay involved in Department activities this year.
- For anyone wanting to share a few minutes of their time with a current theatre student, our Acting classes would love to talk with you. One assignment is to interview a professional about terms and theories students learn in the courses and how they apply to the industry. If you would be willing to have a KU student contact you for a Zoom or phone interview, please email Associate Teaching Professor Laura Kirk at firstname.lastname@example.org.
- For those of you in the Lawrence area, we are currently planning to move ahead with our planned production season, albeit for masked, limited audiences. Additionally, a few of our productions and events will be streamed, so you can view our work wherever you may be. Those are yet to be determined, so please back for event listings as the season goes along.
Please feel free to share the message with your fellow alums, those who soldiered through classes and productions with you, to spread the word about Alums Come Home VII, now planned for Fall 2022. It is going to be bigger and more fun than ever!
This message comes at a time of uncertainty, but also of hope. We were looking forward to bringing together all members of the KU Theatre & Dance family this year, but instead we will look forward to seeing you next year. We continue to be proud of the achievements of KU Theatre and Dance students. You always have a “home” in the Department, and we are always cheering for you.
Henry Bial, Professor and Chair of the Department of Theatre & Dance
