Biography

Patrick Suzeau is an international performer, choreographer, and educator. Upon his arrival in New York City he performed for Mary Anthony, Pearl Lang, Anna Sokolow, Kuch/Gain/Maslow, among others, in off-Broadway theatres and toured as a solo artist for the national Affiliate Artists program.

In collaboration with Muriel Cohan he founded the COHAN/SUZEAU Dance Company that has performed nationally and abroad to critical acclaim. "The talented, gutsy pair have, through the perfection of their craft and the vivacity of their art, carved a respected place for themselves in the crowded landscape of the New York City dance world" (Cleveland Magazine).

Formerly New York based, COHAN/SUZEAU toured the mid-west with the support of the N.E.A. Regional Touring Program and the Kansas Arts Commission Touring Program. COHAN/SUZEAU is the recipient of a Phoenix award for its artistic contribution to the city of Lawrence.

COHAN/SUZEAU's work has been performed in Malaysia, Borneo, Philippines, Bulgaria, China, India, Singapore, Israel, Italy, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and Australia. COHAN/SUZEAU spent the spring semester 2007 in Lithuania on a Fulbright Fellowship where their production "Dia de los Muertos" was sponsored by the U.S. Embassy to be mounted on soloists of the National Ballet, and dancers from the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre.

While on sabbatical in 2011, Suzeau performed at the Temple of Fine Arts in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This led to a second Fulbright Fellowship. He spent the fall semester 2014 in Kuala Lumpur where he performed, taught and mounted works from the COHAN/SUZEAU repertoire on Malaysian dancers.

While in New York City Juilliard trained Suzeau taught at the Alvin Ailey School, Dennis Wayne's Dancerschool, Barry-Klein studio, Mary Anthony studio, the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, and the Cohan/Suzeau studio. A recipient of several grants and choreography commissions from private and public funds he has been a guest artist at countless universities across the USA. As a performer he has been praised for his "prodigious technique", "very special performer" (Dance Magazine), and "physically expressive, strong dancer" (The New York Times).

A Certified Laban Movement Analyst, Suzeau teaches Ballet, Modern Dance, Introduction to East Indian Classical Dance, Ideokinesis and Choreography.
