Biography

Rana Esfandiary is an Assistant Professor of design & technology at the University of Kansas. She received her PhD in theatre and MFA in scenography from the University of Kansas where she designed multiple shows including Summer and Smoke, Dog Sees God, Adding Machine: A Musical, and The Mousetrap. She has been Assistant Director of A Soft Scape (2016, Just KC MeltingPot Theatre), Rachel (2016, KC MeltingPot Theatre), Welcome To Arroyo’s (2016, University of Kansas), and A Raisin in the Sun (2015, University of Kansas).

She recently defended her dissertation, Otherwise the Gap: Performing Identities in the Iranian Contemporary Art and Performance in Diaspora. Her research areas are Race and Performance studies, Ritual and Religious Studies, and Scenography.
